Spring has also been market by another event here on the farm, last night was the official "First Salad of the Year" night. It seems that with the sun out the salad has doubled in size and a bowlful for dinner barley made a dent in a patch that I'm sure will grow out of control before we know it.
We have in the last week also added 4 new chicks which we will add to the laying flock. Hopefully we can expect more eggs by the end of summer. The greenhouse is now fully planted for spring with salad, onions and carrots. Within the next 2-3 weeks we will be moving it to the summer position where it will grow tomatoes.

Hi Brian and Jess, I saw your garden set up the other day and it caught my attention! We just moved to Hermontown and have 3 acres with some out buildings that we want to put to use. One looks like and old green house made of tin and fiberglass and it has a wood burning stove in it. We just got a few chicks and quails in the house growing. I would like to have a chicken trailer...
ReplyDeleteWe have many deer coming through the yard... how expensive is electric fencing to run? Looks like it might be the best rout as I hear they jump pretty high. If you have any advice or recommendations? DO you sell your ducks? How do you keep them from the wolves and coyotes, etc. Our out-buildings are not very close to our house and I wonder how we will keep the animals safe. Thanks! Patty W.
